Announcer, Cowboy and Trick Roper
Professional Rodeo Announcer Anthony Lucia comes to us from Weatherford, Texas. Lucia has been a part of U.P. Rodeo several times over the years, both as a highly sought after announcer, and as a specialty act, skillfully entertaining the crowds with his trick roping. Lucia’s abilities don’t stop there; he is also a competitive team roper.
Where Lucia gets his talent from is no secret. His father, well known rodeo performer Tommy Lucia, who owned and trained Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey, raised Lucia in the rodeo world. Traveling the country with his father since he was four years old, Lucia began joining him in rodeo performances at age 8, and he hasn’t stopped since.
As a rodeo announcer, Lucia is responsible for not only entertaining, but also educating the crowd on what is happening in the rodeo arena. While explaining each event and announcing the scores and times for the rodeo contestants, Lucia also works with the rodeo clown to make sure the production is top notch. And he does this all while on horseback!
With a slew of achievements, including a roping appearance on ‘America’s Got Talent’, having been named the 2010 Great Lakes Circuit Finals Rodeo Specialty Act and the 2010-2013 National Finals Trick Roper, Lucia also continues to announce the World’s Toughest Rodeo Tour and hosts the show Live with Lucia in Las Vegas, during the National Finals Rodeo.
“I traveled the country with my dad and hero Tommy Lucia since I was four years old. Learning from him and refining my own skills. At 23 I went pro and have never looked back. I am a professional trickroper, announcer and team roper. I do what I do, and whatever gifts I have are on loan from God. My motto is, “Electrify and Glorify”.”-Anthony Lucia
Trick Riders – Specialty Entertainment
Lindy Nealey is 26 years old and comes to us from Bloomington, IL. She began trick riding at the age of 10, and has been performing rodeos, Wild West shows, and dinner theaters over half of her life. She is an accomplished trick rider and Roman rider, and rides two flashy Buckskin Quarter Horses. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois, with a degree in Environmental Science. Soon after graduation she was asked to perform stunt work on the film ‘Cowgirls and Angels 2: Dakota’s Summer’, a family film with a focus on the trick riding lifestyle. She was a featured trick rider at Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede Dinner Theater in Pigeon Forge, TN, where she performed over 800 shows a year. Lindy began using her talents competitively in 2014, where her Roman riding act was named the International Professional Rodeo Association Contract Act Showcase Champion. In 2016, Lindy was named the Texas North American Trick Riding Qualifier Champion, which took her to Las Vegas for the North American Championships. Lindy’s finesse and graceful style will make her death defying tricks look effortless atop her hard running horses.
Haley Ganzel is 22 years old and hails from Collinsville, OK. She began trick riding at the age of 4 after begging her uncle, NFR Contract Act Shawn Brackett, to teach her the trade. A passion for trick riding and the performing lifestyle developed at a young age for Haley when she had the opportunity to travel with the Great American Wild West Show to some of the greatest rodeo venues in the country. She was blessed with the opportunity to work with legendary trick riders at a young age, where she was able to learn and hone her craft. Haley was crowned the 2007 World Champion Trick Rider, competed in the 2016 North American Trick Riding Championships in Las Vegas, and played a role and performed stunt work in the films ‘Cowgirls and Angels’ and ‘Cowgirls and Angels 2: Dakota’s Summer’. Haley not only trick rides, but also Roman rides and works her dancing horse “Crazy Cloud”, where she is proud to display her Cherokee heritage. Haley is always expanding her talents, and constantly keeps the crowd at the edge of their seats. She would like to thank the Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Businesses for their sponsorship and continual support.
Rodeo Clown/Barrell Man
U.P. Rodeo funny man Brian Potter hails from Newville, Alabama, but he will be joining us directly from Alberta, Canada. An equine dentist in the off season, Potter has been involved with the sport of rodeo in some fashion, since his teen years. He began his career riding bulls and broncs, but after incurring some injuries, he moved onto bullfighting. Finding that more money could be made if he put some comedy into his act, he became a rodeo clown and barrel man.
Best known for his acts “Hershey the Driving Horse” and “Motocross Mike”, Potter has a natural ability to get up close and personal with the crowd, making sure the spectators are entertained throughout the entire rodeo performance.
Since 2001, Potter has been entertaining crowds at rodeos from Canada to Florida, including the Finals for the Turquoise Circuit, the South Eastern Circuit and the Wilderness Circuit.
